Arsenal target Kylian Mbappe 'obsessed' with winning the Champions League

Arsenal target Kylian Mbappe says winning the Champions League is an "obsession" for him as Europe's tops clubs continue to chase the Monaco star's signature.

The 18-year-old has been the subject of a rejected £87 million bid from the Gunners - who will not feature in the Champions League next season - as Arsene Wenger looks to make a statement after signing a new two-year deal amid fan unrest at the Emirates Stadium.

Monaco have reportedly also turned down a world-record £105m offer from Real Madrid, who became the first team to retain the Champions League trophy last weekend.

Mbappe is far more interested in team honours, noting the Ballon d'Or, as he looks to reach the top of the game rather than "playing in the middle" of the league standings.

"[The Champions League] is a dream, a competition that everyone wants to win and that only a minority can win - the most important are the titles," he told Telefoot.

"That would be much more of an obsession for me than the Ballon d'Or, for example. I want to touch the stars and, when you dream, you do not dream of playing the middle of the table or maintaining it."

He added: "[The World Cup] is the number one goal at international level. As I always say, dreams are good but it's up to me to work for them."
