Arsenal transfer news and rumours: Paqueta fee halved; Edu flies in for Zinchenko; £21m defender offered

Marc Mayo20 July 2022

Mikel Arteta has not finished with the transfer market yet despite Arsenal nearing their fifth signing of the summer.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to undergo a medical ahead of a £32million move from Manchester City.

But the Gunners boss has already declared his intention to continue pushing for improvements to his squad until the very end of the transfer window.

That could mean a cut-price move for Lucas Paqueta or a swoop for unwanted Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji.

Here is your latest update of Arsenal transfer news and rumours...

Lucas Paqueta

Previously touted as a £67.5m transfer target, Lyon have effectively halved Paqueta’s price tag to a much more manageable £34m.

French outlet Media Foot, who also reported on the initial fee, claim the new valuation comes as a token of good faith from the Ligue 1 side after the Brazilian’s loyalty in the past.

Both Lyon and Paqueta are said to be ready to do a deal with Arsenal - should the Gunners decide to launch an official bid.

Borussia Dortmund want to dispense with Swiss international Akanji this summer with Arsenal among the clubs offered his services.

A fee of £21m has been set despite the 27-year-old being out of contract next year and therefore able to negotiate a free transfer in under six months’ time.

La Gazzetta dello Sport, via The Sun, report on the Gunners being one club seen as a potential destination for Akanji.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Technical director Edu will fly into Florida to help seal the deal for Zinchenko to join Arsenal.

The Gunners have agreed a four-year contract with the Manchester City man after his club accepted a £32m fee.

The Athletic reported last night that Zinchenko departed City’s pre-season camp in Houston to undergo his medical in Orlando, where Arsenal are based ahead of their next friendly on Wednesday night.
