Shkodran Mustafi has agreed personal terms with Arsenal as the Gunners move closer to adding their second significant signing of the transfer window.

Earlier this week the Gunners submitted a £28million bid to Valencia for the German international, and his agent Ali Bulut has confirmed that the club have reached an agreement with Mustafi over the personal terms.

He told Spox: “Shkodran and Arsenal agree. It now just remains for the teams to come to an agreement over the fee.”

Mustafi, who spent three seasons at Everton without playing, has been Arsenal’s primary transfer target since Per Mertesacker suffered a major knee injury that will rule him out until 2017. The Gunners also monitored Jonny Evans of West Brom.

Gabriel could be out for nearly two months after he received an ankle injury in a 3-2 friendly win over Manchester City on Sunday. Laurent Koscielny, who returned to training late last week, is yet to rebuild fitness in time for the first game of the season against Liverpool.

It remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will start with Koscielny, the manager is also understood to be considering pairing left-back Nacho Monreal with Calum Chambers and bringing Kieran Gibbs into the side.
