Target: Subotic

Arsenal are hopeful of taking advantage of Borussia Dortmund's dreadful season to land long-term target Neven Subotic this summer.

The Gunners have tracked the centre-back for years and first tried to sign him in 2009 when chief executive Ivan Gazidis held talks with Dortmund but was unwilling to meet the club's £18million asking price.

Subotic has remained on manager Arsene Wenger's radar and the 26-year-old could be available for less than that figure after Dortmund's disastrous season.

Jurgen Klopp's side are tenth in the Bundesliga having recovered their form somewhat but spent a large part of the campaign flirting with relegation- a remarkable decline for a team that won the title just two years ago and finished runners-up in each of the past two seasons.

Klopp has had to deal with the departure of several high-profile players and Arsenal are keen to add Subotic to that list having identified the signing of an additional defender as a key aim at the end of the season.

A holding midfielder remains the priority, however, with Wenger hopeful of landing Morgan Schniederlin from Southampton, while Wenger is also pondering a new goalkeeper with Wojciech Szcesny and David Ospina currently battling to be number one.
