Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was handed a rare start in Arsenal's FA Cup third-round tie against north London rivals Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.

Theo Walcott led the attack in place of lead frontman Olivier Giroud, while captain Thomas Vermaelen returned to the defence and there was also a start for German youngster Serge Gnarby.

Italian Emiliano Viviano was on the bench as number one Wojciech Szczesny was rested completely while record-signing Mesut Ozil, fit after a shoulder problem, was also among the Arsenal substitutes.

Tottenham also fielded a strong side, with just one change from the win at Manchester United as 19-year-old midfielder Nabil Bentaleb made his first start and former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor led the attack.

Arsenal: Fabianski, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Monreal, Arteta, Wilshere, Rosicky, Cazorla, Gnabry, Walcott

Tottenham: Lloris, Walker, Chiriches, Dawson, Rose, Lennon, Bentaleb, Dembele, Eriksen, Adebayor, Soldado.
