Arsenal’s tour of America reaches its conclusion in Los Angeles during the early hours of Monday morning when the Gunners take on Chivas de Guadalajara.

Summer signings Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding were among the most impressive performers in Friday’s 2-1 victory over the MLS All Stars, where Chuba Akpom’s late strike secured a first victory of pre-season for Arsenal.

Santi Cazorla could be among the starters against Chivas – he was one of the few players who did not play any part in the All Star Game – and the Spaniard may get a chance to prove himself as the ideal partner for Xhaka, who was a second half substitute in Friday’s game.

Chivas have made a mixed start to their Liga MX campaign, winning and losing one of their first games, but Arsene Wenger will hope that another opponent as sharp as the All Stars were will give his side a comprehensive test.

Team news

Friday’s match-winner Akpom is expected to lead the line for Arsenal after his late winner against the MLS All Stars and will hope another impressive display could see him usurp Theo Walcott, indifferent in the same game, in the battle for a starting place against Liverpool on the season’s opening day.

Akpom could be joined by several other youth prospects, with Jeff Reine-Adelaide hoping to make an impression after being promoted to the first team squad earlier in the tour.

Spanish contingent Cazorla, Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal are also in line to start, the latter two made impressive contributions off the bench at the Avaya Stadium. Similarly £35m signing Xhaka is likely to once more feature.

What they’re saying

Arsenal away and third kit launch in LA

Wenger: “We are in a very hard training programme at the moment. You never know how tired the players are going to be in the game. So it was good to see we are in good shape. We had two hard days in the training sessions before we played today so we did well.

“At the moment, I do not have too many attacking options. Let’s not forget that there are still a few players at home, and that a few players didn’t play today, like Cazorla. Then of course you have Ozil and Ramsey at home, even Giroud is not here.”
