Arsenal star Granit Xhaka has been dubbed “one of the world’s greatest athletes” by Andy Murray.

Murray, a huge Gunners fan, has revealed he teased Roger Federer when he landed in the hometown of both the Switzerland midfielder and tennis legend.

“I messaged Roger, when I landed in Basel,” the 35-year-old told Aargauer Zeitung.

“I said, ‘I just touched down in the city of one of the world’s greatest ever athletes: Granit Xhaka’.

“I know that Granit Xhaka is from here. I’m a huge Arsenal fan. Xhaka is playing really, really well this season. He scored another wonderful goal on Sunday.”

Murray is in the city to play in the Swiss Indoors championship and beat Roman Safiullin in three sets on Tuesday.

Xhaka, meanwhile, will hope to continue his fine start to the season away to PSV Eindhoven as Arsenal look to secure top spot of their Europa League group.
