Man Utd are scuppering Arsenal's hopes of sealing Wilfried Zaha transfer

Arsenal target: Crystal Palace are refusing to sell Zaha for less than their £80m valuation

Arsenal are enduring even tougher negotiations in their attempts to sign Wilfried Zaha due to Manchester United’s sell-on clause for the Crystal Palace forward.

The Gunners have identified the Ivorian as a top target this summer, but they have so far failed in their attempts to sign him.

Arsenal initially bid around £40million for Zaha, while it has been suggested that the Gunners would be willing to offer players to sweeten any deal.

However Crystal Palace have been unmoving in their position as the Gunners are yet to get close to the forward’s asking price, which is believed to be around £80m.

The Eagles are in a strong position given that Zaha has four years to run on his £130,000-a-week contract and they are under no financial pressure to sell after banking over £50m from Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s sale to Manchester United earlier this summer.

Such circumstances are making negotiations tough for Arsenal, but it is understood the presence of Manchester United’s sell-on clause are making talks even harder for the Gunners.

United included a sell-on clause when they sold Zaha back to Palace in 2015 as part of a deal worth around £6m.

It entitles them to 20 per cent of the profit made on the Ivorian’s sale which, if he were to go for £80m, would be around £15m.

Palace tried to remove the clause as part of the negotiations surrounding Wan-Bissaka’s move to Old Trafford, but they were unable to.

As a result the Eagles have strengthened their resolve around not dropping Zaha’s asking price given the cash windfall Manchester United are due from any deal.

That is making negotiations even tougher for Arsenal, who have so far struggled to match Palace’s valuation as their proposals have been based around paying in instalments.
