Arsene Wenger reveals moment Arsenal fans bombarded him with messages this season

Arsene Wenger has revealed how he was inundated with messages from Arsenal fans after Liverpool’s hopes of emulating his Invincibles side were ended earlier this season.

Wenger’s Arsenal famously went through an entire Premier League campaign without losing a single game in 2003/04, part of a 49-game unbeaten run which stands as the longest in the history of English professional football.

For much of the season, Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool side looked on course to surpass that mark, and when they arrived at Vicarage Road to play relegation-threatened Watford in February, the Reds were galloping towards the Premier League title on a 44-game unbeaten streak.

However, two goals from Ismaila Sarr and one from Troy Deeney saw the Hornets produce one of the shock results of the season and preserve the Gunners’ achievement as unique in the modern era.

"Yes, it was a form of satisfaction [to see Liverpool lose]," Wenger told BeIN Sport. "We always like to be the only ones to achieve something. They [Liverpool] could really go all the way. But it shows that it's difficult to repeat this feat.

"Anyway, that day, I had a lot of messages from Arsenal supporters.”
