Arsene Wenger is determined to lead Arsenal to their first Premier League title since 2004, but admits that the fees dominating the transfer market this summer are 'scary.'

The Gunners boss confirmed after the 2-1 victory over MLS All-Stars that he is looking to add an 'experienced' striker to his squad for the new season.

However, Leicester forward Jamie Vardy snubbed a move to the Gunners, while summer target Gonzalo Higuain left Napoli for Serie A rivals Juventus for 90million to become the third most expensive signing in football history.

Lyon announced earlier this week that they had rejected an initial £29.4m offer from the Gunners for Alexandre Lacazette, and Wenger has acknowledged that completing deals this summer is more difficult due to the rising transfer fees in the modern game.

Asked whether a top-four finish and Champions League qualification was enough for Arsenal every season, Wenger told reporters: “It’s never enough no matter what.

"I personally believe that no matter what you do it’s never enough.

"But you have to give absolutely everything to take the best out of the team. Where will our best be?

"I believe that we know what we have to do because we were second last year. We had [many] teams behind us.

"It’s a big ask when you look at the Premier League, every club is hugely ambitious.

"And when you look at the cheques that everybody signs, it’s quite scary, but that is [what] the Premier League is about at the moment.”

Wenger said that he wants a more experienced option in attack before the start of the new campaign, though CEO Ivan Gazidis has warned Arsenal supporters that their demands for signings will not dictate the club’s strategy in the remainder of the transfer window.
