Arsene Wenger says he understands Mesut Ozil's frustrations after the midfielder was embroiled in a heated row following Arsenal's 2-0 loss at Tottenham.

The German was asked to take a random drugs test which ended with the kicking of a door in the bowels of White Hart Lane.

Ozil is expected to be involved as Arsenal welcome Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, a game crucial to the club's hopes of finishing in the top four.

"I am sorry that he kicked the door, but I can understand," Wenger told reporters on Thursday.

"I don’t think his frustration was towards the drug test, it was towards the fact that we lost the game and that is the only explanation I have.

"I didn’t speak about it with him because I only heard about it today.”

Ozil has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks but he defended himself in an interview this morning, adding: “Some people like me, some people don't.

"Some people look at my body language and think I don't care. But that's me. I won't change my body language or my style of play drastically anymore.”
