Standard Sport assesses the individual performances from Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The Gunners moved to the top of the Premier League with what was a comfortable victory away to the bottom side.

An early penalty from Olivier Giroud, fresh from his hat-trick in Arsenal’s victory over Olympiakos, set Arsene Wenger’s side on course for the summit and they were rarely challenged by a home side that look well on course for the Championship.

The excellent Aaron Ramsey was the driving force in the middle of the park and he instigated the counter attack that took Arsenal 2-0 clear. Winning the ball back on the edge of the area he was then on hand to tap in after a square ball from Mesut Ozil, who registered his 13th assist of the season.

In the second half Villa threw more bodies forward, with Alan Hutton’s crossing at times asking probing questions of the Arsenal defence. But in truth they were rarely found wanting, and comfortably held on for a win to move top of the league.
