Brendan Rodgers has dismissed claims that Liverpool are mirroring Tottenham's transfer policy, insisting that his club has a 'strategy' behind their business.

Amidst the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, Six new players have arrived at Anfield this summer, including former Southampton trio Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.

Spurs were heavily criticised over their investment in the lead up to Gareth Bale's world record sale to Real Madrid, with arguably only Christian Eriksen settling at the club of the seven players brought in.

Comparisons have been made between the two clubs but Rodgers insists there is a model in place.

"It's a different club and different vision we have here. At Liverpool there's a strategy behind what we are doing," Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

"We talked a lot with our recruitment team last season, knowing that through the summer we needed to improve the depth of our squad."

With Champions League football returning to Anfield for the first time since the 2009-10 season, the Liverpool manager has been keen to bolster his resources.

Liverpool finished runners-up to Manchester City last season in the Premier League, and Rodgers believes it was the depth of City's squad that eventually proved crucial in the title run in.

As a result, he insists the club had always planned to heavily invest, regardless of the outcome of Suarez's future.

"Clearly we were not strong enough last season in terms of numbers and quality," Rodgers continued.

"We always planned to bring in a number of players, hoping we were going to be in the Champions League, so it would give us the opportunity to challenge on all fronts.

"The new players know their roles and we hope they can develop in the future as well. So far, the integration has been smooth."
