Manchester United fans appeared to explode with delight after the club announced they had agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The 31-year-old will be reunited with Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford after reportedly signing a three-year deal for a fee believed to be £5.75 million.
A world Cup winner with Germany in 2014, Schweinsteiger has won no fewer than 23 major honours during his career, including eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2012-13, when Bayern Munich completed the treble under Jupp Heynckes.
Manchester United confirmed on Saturday that an agreement had been reached for Schweinsteiger, with the move set to be completed subject to a medical.
