Ramires’s international future with Brazil is in doubt after reports the Chelsea midfielder pulled out of representing his country in March to have a dinner party with his wife.

It was thought Ramires missed the friendly matches against Russia and Italy in March with a thigh injury, although he was fit enough to play for Chelsea either side of the international break.

However, the president of the Brazil FA Jose Maria Marin has revealed a Brazilian playing in the Premier League, which is believed to be Ramires, missed the two friendlies in March for personal rather than legitimate reasons.

He said: "I do not speak of his name, but it was a player who plays in England. Imagine if Thiago Silva turned to the group and said that he could not face Russia or Italy because his wife arranged a dinner party with friends."

Brazil paper Globosporte claim Marin was referring to the Chelsea star and Ramires was surprisingly dropped from the squad that played in the Confederations Cup this summer.
