Burnley sign Fernando Guerrero

11 April 2012

Burnley have signed Fernando Guerrero on a season-long loan deal from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle.

Manager Owen Coyle has the option to make the 19-year-old winger's move permanent at the end of the campaign.

"Fernando is an exciting player and we believe he has unbelievable potential", Coyle said.

"Obviously he is valued very highly by his club in Ecuador and if he comes in and shows us the quality we know he possesses I think he can go on to become a truly outstanding player."

Coyle had been tracking Guerrero after watching the teenager in action for Real Madrid's reserve side, Real Madrid Castilla.

Guerrero then impressed as a trialist during Burnley's pre-season tour of America in July.

He is Coyle's sixth signing of the summer and joins record buy Steven Fletcher, Tyrone Mears, David Edgar, Richard Eckersley and Brian Easton at Turf Moor.

Guerrero has been capped at international level and in January this year played every game for Ecuador in the South American Youth Championship.
