Charlton Athletic’s interim manager Karel Fraeye has been sacked as crisis continues to engulf The Valley.

The south London side are winless in ten matches and crashed to a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Huddersfield on Tuesday night, a result that left them three points from safety and second from bottom in the Championship.

Fraeye was appointed on an interim basis in October after the club sacked Guy Luzon, their fourth permanent manager since January 2014.

First-team coach Wim de Corte will take charge of the side for Saturday’s match away to promotion contenders Hull City, with Jason Euell as his assistant.

Owner Roland Duchatelet has been battling attempts from the fans to force him out of the club but has no intention to sell up despite several thousand supporters protesting against his regime outside The Valley earlier this month.

A statement on the club website added: “The club would like to place on record its thanks to Karel for his tireless work and the many positive contributions he made to the wider football setup at Charlton.”
