Luis Suarez opened the scoring against former side Liverpool to fire Barcelona into the lead in their Champions League semi-final first leg clash.

The Uruguay international peeled away from Virgil van Dijk to latch onto Jordi Alba’s superb cross from the left, beating Alisson from six yards out.

The game's opener was Suarez's first Champions League goal of the season and also Barcelona's 500th in the competition's history.

Suarez’s goal came after 26 minutes following a bright start to the contest from the visitors, who may have felt they should have had a penalty when Sadio Mane went down inside the penalty area under pressure from Gerard Pique.

Liverpool have already been forced into an early change with Jordan Henderson coming onto replace the injured Naby Keita after 25 minutes.
