Diego Costa finally scored his first Champions League goal for Chelsea and helped ease some of the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea cruised to a comfortable victory against a poor Maccabi Tel Aviv side in their opening group game.

Costa's superb volley from Cesc Fabregas' pass in the second half was the highlight of the night.

The Spain international struck 21 times in his first season at Stamford Bridge, but remarkably failed to find the net in Europe's premier club competition last term.

In truth, the game was already won by that point as the home side led 2-0 at the break through a Willian free kick and a penalty from Oscar.

Chelsea had entered the game under a lot of scrutiny having lost three of their first five League games.

Their lack of confidence showed at first, with Eden Hazard adding to the tension by sending a penalty in the sixth minute high over the bar.

But Maccabi were just the kind of opposition Chelsea needed to register a first home win of the campaign and Fabregas scored late on to make it four.
