West Brom forward Salomon Rondon insists John Terry is still world class despite his rocky start to the season.

It came after he was hauled off at half-time in Chelsea's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City last week to cast doubts over his future at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho.

Boss Mourinho questioned the red card but Rondon believes referee Mark Clattenburg got it right, although still feels Terry has quality.

He said: "It is very complicated playing against him. He is a world-class defender and all of the world knows how he plays. It is a question of identifying his weak points and trying to exploit them.

"Was it a red? For me, yes. He pulled my shirt and I would have got the ball if he had not.

"It is a type of football here that suits me, I think, because of my physical characteristics. I need to get to my best as quickly as possible to show my qualities, but I think I am suited to this type of physical game."

Rondon made his home debut after a record £12million move from Zenit St Petersburg and could play again on Tuesday against Port Vale in the Capital One Cup.

He replaced Saido Berahino at the weekend, with boss Tony Pulis dropping the former England Under-21 international after Albion rejected a bid from Tottenham last week. The forward then handed a transfer request in on Monday which was dismissed by the Baggies.

And Venezuelan Rondon hopes he can adapt to the Barclays Premier League quickly.

He said: "I am trying to be at my best as fast as I can. The Russian league had already started but I have been a few weeks without playing. There are certain details that have not quite been ironed out yet, but I am doing everything I can to be back as quickly as possible."
