Chelsea continue hunt for fans who made Anton Ferdinand taunts

11 April 2012

Chelsea say they are "continuing" their investigations into the offensive chanting that took place during their game against Genk last week.

The incidents happened during the Blues' Champions League tie with the Belgian side at the Cristal Arena, and co-incided with the ongoing police and Football Association investigations into the race row between captain John Terry and QPR's Anton Ferdinand.

Some of the Chelsea's travelling contingent were clearly heard singing, "Anton Ferdinand, you know what you are", although the match officials did not include any mention of it in their reports.

But after quickly insisting they would do all they could to root out any troublemakers, Chelsea have issued an update via their official website.

A statement read: "Chelsea Football Club is continuing the investigation into identifying fans who participated in offensive chanting during our Champions League game against Genk.

"The club has been working closely with the police and Genk authorities, and all available footage of the relevant areas of the stadium is being tracked down to determine those who took part.

"The methods we employ to identify individuals or groups engaging in this offensive practice are kept under continual review, as are technological advancements that may afford us a greater degree of accuracy in identifying offenders in the future.

"Chelsea FC is committed to stamping out all forms of discrimination and if we are provided with sufficient evidence that season-ticket holders or members have been involved in such activity we will take the strongest possible action, including supporting criminal prosecution.

"A number of people have been banned from Stamford Bridge and prosecuted for racist behaviour in the past and we won't hesitate to act in this way again."

The club have also set up a dedicated telephone number for anyone with information to call.
