Mauricio Pochettino says rebuilding Chelsea is easier than the job he inherited at Tottenham.

Chelsea face Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday in desperate need of a lift after a poor start to the season.

Pochettino insists he is convinced Chelsea’s project will be a success and said: “It is less hard than when we were at Southampton and Tottenham, trust me.

“All we are missing is scoring goals. If you see our first few months at Southampton or Tottenham, I think we are playing much better. We are doing much better here but we are missing the most important thing in football, scoring. It is not harder than the previous experiences.”

Pochettino worked closely with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to rebuild Spurs but arrived at Chelsea after sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stuart had already planned their summer transfer business.

Although Pochettino had veto power, he is less involved in off-field matters than he was at Spurs.

He said: “Here, the plan was already made and we arrived here and we tried to develop this project. We decided the plan with the club at Tottenham.

“When I arrived here, the plan had already started to work and now I am part of the plan.

“Everyone can talk about that the plan is not right, but I really believe in the project - it’s only about time. We only need time to change that perception.”
