Thomas Tuchel has admitted to trying to sign Luis Suarez during his time in charge at Paris Saint-Germain, but is not contemplating revisiting that interest at Chelsea as things stand.

The Blues face a reunion with the former Liverpool striker on Tuesday night when they travel to face LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on neutral territory in the Romanian capital of Bucharest.

Suarez joined Atletico from Barcelona for a nominal fee in September 2020, signing a two-year contract after a move to reigning Serie A champions Juventus fell through.

“There was a possibility, we heard rumours he was about to leave Barcelona,” Tuchel said of previously attempting to lure Suarez to PSG.

“Who cannot be interested in one of the best strikers in history and present world football? We tried our luck.”

Asked if he was still interested in Suarez after joining Chelsea, the German added: “I don’t know. It was a moment. I think he’s under contract and it’s not worth thinking about.”
