Chelsea insist they are taking allegations of racist abuse against former coaches Gwyn Williams and Graham Rix seriously and are conducting their own investigation.

As reported by the Guardian today, three ex-youth players have taken legal action against the club for the way they were treated.

Such was the nature of the complaints, Chelsea notified the Football Association when they were first brought to light last year and the police were brought in.

While the police decided not to take any action due to insufficient evidence after a seven-month investigation, the players in question are still looking for compensation.

A club statement said: “We take allegations of this nature extremely seriously. We are absolutely determined to do the right thing, to fully support those affected, assist the authorities and support their investigations.”

Williams was employed at Stamford Bridge in various roles for 25 years, while Rix was there between 1993-2000.

While Williams has been accused of just verbal abuse, it has been suggested Rix also hurt the players physically and once threw a hot cup of coffee at one individual.

Neither Williams or Rix have responded to the claims as yet.
