Chelsea loanee Papy Djilobodji scored a controversial late winner to secure Bundesliga survival for Werder Bremen on Saturday.

There were suggestions of offside as the 27-year-old converted in the 88th minute to haul Bremen out of the relegation play-off spot at the expense of visitors Eintracht Frankfurt.

The hosts jumped up to 13th with victory but Frankfurt must now contest a two-legged play-off with second tier side Nurnberg to determine who will play in the German top flight next season.

Stuttgart, meanwhile, dropped out of the Bundesliga and will join Hannover, who were relegated before the final day, in the 2. Bundesliga next term.

Djilobodji was Jose Mourinho's final signing before he was sacked as Chelsea boss in December, though the Portuguese claimed he had nothing to do with the Senegal international's £4million deadline day arrival.

The central defender made just one appearance for the Blues and failed to feature in the Premier League before being sent out on loan to Werder Bremen in January.

Werder Bremen were 16th, two points and two places behind Frankfurt when Djilobodji arrived at Weserstadion.
