Olivier Giroud urges Chelsea to finish job after wonder goal earns Champions League last-16 advantage

Olivier Giroud has told Chelsea to get the job done after his wonder goal put them on course for the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Frenchman’s overhead kick secured a 1-0 win against Atletico Madrid last night and a vital away goal in Bucharest.

But Giroud was quick to focus minds ahead of the second leg next month, saying: “We know the importance of the away goal in European competition.

“We were confident, but faced a great team and I think we were very committed and knew their main strengths. We dealt with it, but we have to stay focused and complete the job.”

Chelsea will be without suspended pair Mason Mount and Jorginho for the second leg, but manager Thomas Tuchel insists his priority now is getting through his toughest run of League fixtures — starting with Sunday’s clash with Manchester United.

“We will miss two crucial players, it makes things not easy for us,” he said. “We now play Man United, Everton, Liverpool and Leeds. We cannot get comfortable, lazy. These games will push us to our limits, then we will think about our solutions for the second leg.”
