Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham 'dreaming big' as Newcastle chase loan deal for in-demand youngster

Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham admits he is far from sure where he will be playing next season.

The 19-year-old striker is much in demand after an outstanding campaign on loan in the Championship next season, scoring 26 goals in a Bristol City side that spent the year battling in the lower reaches of the table.

Newcastle are leading Brighton in the race for Abraham’s signature on loan next season with Chelsea intending to offer their youth prospect a long-term contract in the view to eventually integrating him into their squad.

"I'm not sure what I'm doing next season, if I'm coming back, going elsewhere on loan or staying at Chelsea," Abraham said.

"I haven't decided yet. You have to stay open and things may come at different times but I have to dream big and that's what I'm going to be doing."

For now Abraham’s focus will shift to the England Under-21s, where he will likely lead the line in Poland as Aidy Boothroyd’s side look to build on a remarkable summer for the country’s youth teams.

This weekend saw an U18 side retain the country’s Toulon Tournament crown whilst the U20s became only the second England side to win a Fifa World Cup Final as they defeated Venezuela 1-0 in South Korea.

Recent years have not been as kind on the U21s, who have failed to make it out of the group stages at the last three tournaments but Abraham believes the Young Lions can return from Poland with their first European Championship since 1984.

“It's going to be tough but our aim is to win and do the best we can. I wouldn't say we're under pressure but we are going to do our best,” Abraham told the Press Association.

“I have confidence going into it but it's never going to be easy. Hopefully I've done enough this season to get into the team. If I have, I'll work as hard as I can.

“It's still my ambition to be at the top level, and be playing for England - especially like a competition like the World Cup.”
