Chelsea have confirmed Wallace has joined Gremio on loan until June 2017.

The 21-year-old signed for the Blues from Fluminense for £4.4m in 2012 but has failed to break into the first-team at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazil Under-20 international is yet to make an appearance for the west Londoners' senior side and has spent time on loan at both Inter Milan and Vitesse in an effort to receive regular game time.

He spent the first half of the current campaign with Serie A side Carpi but it has now been decided he will return to his homeland until the end of next season.

The full-back, who is capable of either flank, is yet to fulfill his potential at Chelsea due to fierce competition for places in the champions' defence.

Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta are both regular starters while Kurt Zouma and Baba Rahman are currently regarded as back-up options on the flanks.

While the former three players have all featured regularly this term Rahman has made just four top-flight appearances, despite the club's poor start to the season.
