Chelsea v Everton team news: John Terry returns to Blues line-up

Sam Johnston22 February 2014

Jose Mourinho has made a handful of changes to the Chelsea side which lost tamely to Manchester City in the FA Cup last weekend.

The fit again John Terry is restored to the starting line-up and resumes his partnership with Gary Cahill as David Luiz is out with a hip injury.

Nemanja Matic partners Frank Lampard in the centre of midfield, who makes his 572nd Premier League appearance, equalling David James in second place on the all-time list behind Ryan Giggs who sits on 630.

Ramires is left on the bench, perhaps with Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Galatasary in mind. While the attacking midfield trio of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian line up behind Samuel Eto’o.

With Romelu Lukaku ineligible against his parent club, Steven Naismith comes in after recovering from a blow to the head against Swansea last weekend. Lacina Traore was injured in the warm-up.

Besides the striking shortage, Everton manager Roberto Martinez has a full squad to choose from and has opted for the experience and discipline of Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar in midfield ahead of the flair of Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu who are left on the bench.

Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Azpilicueta, Lampard, Matic, Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Eto'o.

Everton: Howard, Baines, Distin, Jagielka (c), Coleman, Barry, McCarthy, Pienaar, Osman, Mirallas, Naismith.
