Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas has been caught up in the Pokémon craze sweeping the globe as the club heads out to America for their pre-season tour.

Nintendo shares soared earlier this month following the release of Pokemon Go, the augmented reality smartphone game which sees participants hunt and collect fictional characters in the real world.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly had to warn his Manchester United players not to play on the app ahead of matches, while Borussia Dortmund's stars have been snapped on their team coach entranced by the game.

Vancouver Whitecaps announced two signings with a Pokemon Go-related Twitter clip, but the app's influence in the footballing world does not seem to have stopped there.

As Fabregas prepared to fly out to LA with the rest of his Chelsea team-mates on Sunday morning, the Spain international posted a picture to Twitter of himself wearing a Pokémon cap.

One Twitter user quipped: "I knew Fabregas had a magic hat, but didn't expect it to be a Pokémon snapback!"

The Blues will face Liverpool, Real Madrid and AC Milan during their tour of the US before returning to EUrope to face Werder Bremen in Bremen ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
