New deal: Eden Hazard

Jose Mourinho has insisted that there should be no reason for concern regarding Eden Hazard's future at the club.

Hazard has two years left on his current deal at the end of this season, but talks over an extension have been ongoing since last March.

The Belgium international's failure to put pen to paper has sparked concern among supporters, especially with Real Madrid known to be huge admirers.

But after being questioned about the cause of the delay, Mourinho said: "Why? What's the problem? He has a contract with Chelsea for two or three more years, why should we be in a hurry? Are you worried? I'm not worried."

Meanwhile, Mourinho believes French football offers him a huge debt of gratitude due to the development of Raphael Varane and Kurt Zouma.

Varane was given his major breakthrough at Real Madrid when Mourinho was in charge at the Bernabeu and is now a full France international.

Zouma has begun to make an impression a Stamford Bridge having been signed by Mourinho from Saint Etienne for £12.5m last January and is expected to earn his first cap soon.

Mourinho said: "I think the France Federation has to thank me. I think they have the two best young defenders in the world.

"I'm not saying they are the best (overall) because they are young. There are obviously end products, mature players who are 25, 28, 30-years-old.

"But as young defenders, can you imagine what Varane and Zouma can represent in football in a few years? I think Didier Deschamps (France coach) must be very happy with that."

Mourinho's comments are even more significant because he plans to make another attempt to sign Varane from Madrid in the summer.

As Standard Sport revealed last week, there are concerns over the form of Gary Cahill, while the club know they need to find a long-term replacement for captain John Terry even though they plan to hand him a one-year extension to his current deal.
