Even at this early stage, the pressure is on Manchester City as they travel to Belgium this evening to face a Club Brugge side in good form.

While the loss at Paris Saint-Germain last time out may have been a tad unfair given the level of their overall performance, City could feasibly fall four points behind the top two in Group A should they lose at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Brugge proved in their opening fixture against PSG they are not to be taken lightly and, though rank outsiders heading into a group that also contains RB Leipzig, are emerging as dark horses.

Indeed, attacking midfielder Hans Vanaken has scored two goals in as many games in a Champions League context, while Bas Dost and Noa Lang provide further attacking threats.

For many, City will be clear favourites but their loss in the French capital showed how susceptible Pep Guardiola’s team can be to throwing a game away if they do not finish their chances.

Club Brugge vs Manchester City prediction

City, despite their riches in attacking midfield, are up against a side who managed to keep PSG’s famed front three largely at bay during Matchday 1. For that reason, it’s hard to see a team without a fixed star striker managing to rack up the goals in the same manner they did against Leipzig. Still, that’s not to say they absolutely cannot score and surely their tendency to dominate possession will create chances, albeit not in the way many might expect considering the difference in resources between the two sides.

Prediction: Manchester City to win 2 -1.
