On the brink: Russell Slade could be on his way out of Leyton Orient
Standard Sport17 September 2014

Standard Sport round up all of Tuesday's action from League One and League Two as Russell Slade was left hanging by a thread.

Notts County 1 Leyton Orient 1

Question marks over Russell Slade's position continue to linger after the O's battled to a 1-1 draw with Notts County on Tuesday.

Slade was told he had one game to arrest the club's alarming dip in form and it seems the 53-year-old could be on his way out after telling the press beforehand anything less than a win at Meadow Lane would be 'curtains'.

Things looked bleak for the Orient boss when Zeli Ismail converted a first-half penalty to give the hosts the lead, but Slade fired up his troops at the break and they gave a response after emerging from the tunnel.

Chris Dagnall stepped to restore parity from the spot after David Moony had been felled, but Slade's men couldn't force a winner despite substitute Dariys Henderson going close.

AFC Wimbledon 3 Burton Albion 0

Adebayo Akinfenwa hit a brace as 10-man Wimbledon surged into the top half of the League Two table with a convincing home win over Burton Albion.

Matt Tubbs kept up his fine goalscoring form when he found the net midway though the first half and Akinfenwa doubled the Dons advantage with a firm header before the break.

The League Two leaders offered very little going forward and Wimbledon took a deserved three-goal lead when Akinfenwa finished off a scrappy move to make the points safe.

A late red card for Tubbs didn't dampen the mood in south-west London as Neal Ardley's men moved to within three points of the play-offs.

Portsmouth 3 Dagenham & Redbridge 0

Dagenham fell to their fifth defeat of the League Two season as Portsmouth ended a run of three straight losses with a comprehensive victory at Fratton Park.

Ashley Chambers had a great chance to pull the Daggers level at 1-0, but struck the bar and the game was gone when Andre Boucard was given his marching orders for a rash challenge.

The hosts then made the most of their numerical advantage as first Jed Wallace scored from 18 yards, before a stoppage-time goal from substitute Andy Barcham added shine to the scoreline.
