Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye insists he is focused on ensuring his CV is not blighted by relegation rather than where his future might lie next summer.
Cabaye has endured a mixed season as Sam Allardyce’s side battle to avoid relegation, providing just two goals and two assists in 27 league games, and suggested last month that he could be keen on a summer return to France.
However with Palace hovering only three points above the relegation zone ahead of tonight's clash with Arsenal Cabaye’s current priorities lie squarely at Selhurst Park.
“I have another year’s contract here. My ambition and my head is very much here.
“I do not want to have a relegation on my CV. We must fight until the end. If the club or the president no longer wants me then things will be different.”
The 31-year-old is not the only player linked with a move to Ligue 1, with goalkeeper Steve Mandanda having been the subject of speculation over a return to Marseille, who were recently taken over by American businessman Frank McCourt and who have already brought Dimitri Payet back to the Stade Velodrome.
Mandanda, a summer signing from Marseille, has been sidelined with a knee injury since mid-November and has been linked with a return to his former club in the summer.
There had been great expectations for Mandanda on his move to south London but his compatriot Cabaye admitted that the goalkeeper had struggled to settled in England even after returning to training.
“He’s not dealing it with it well, to be nice to him,” Cabaye told SFR Sport. “I don’t want to speak for him, but he’s doing well, training really well.
“Obviously, his situation at the club is weighing on him, because it wasn’t what he was expecting at first. As I said, I can’t really speak for him, but he’s a good friend, and I feel a bit sorry for him.”
