Dimitri Payet says told Twitter followers he was 'going back home' after West Ham accepted a £25million bid from Marseille for the winger.

The Hammers confirmed on Sunday they had reached an agreement with Payet's former club for the 29-year-old after weeks oo uncertainty over his future.

Payet posted an image of a private jet on Twitter with the accompanying message: "We're going back home."

It is understood Payet's wife and two children went back to France weeks ago in anticipation of his return to Mrseille.

Payet, who was named West Ham's player of the season last term and starred for France at Euro 2016, was handed a bumper new five-year deal by the club at the start of the current campaign.

But Slaven Bilic revealed earlier in January Payet was refusing to play in a bid to force through a return to Marseille - the club he left for West Ham in a £10million deal just 18 months ago.

Payet made himself unavailable for selection for the visit of Crystal Palace earlier this month and threatened to fake an injury were West Ham to force him to play against his will.

West Ham initially said they were determined not to sell the star, but their tough stance softened following a bitter reaction to his behaviour from West Ham fans.
