The psychologist credited with helping England end their penalty shoot-out jinx at the World Cup last year is set to leave the Football Association.

Dr Pippa Grange, who was appointed as head of people and team development at St. George’s Park in November 2017, announced on Wednesday morning she would be leaving the FA later this year.

Grange had been tasked with bringing her skills and expertise in-house to improve resilience in major tournaments.

The results were clear to see last year at the World Cup in Russia as England ended their penalty shoot-out jinx against Colombia en route to the semi-finals.

Grange was credited for playing a big role in that last-16 victory over Colombia, with the likes of Tottenham pair Harry Kane and Dele Alli praising her work.

But in a statement on Wednesday Grange revealed she was leaving the FA, saying: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at The FA alongside a talented group of people in what has been a transformational period for England teams.

“The time is right for others to build on the foundations that have been put in place.

"We've built a strong team in the last 18 months, and I am confident we will continue to feel the benefit in the years to come.”
