Dutch insist Robin van Persie injury 'not serious'

11 April 2012

Holland coach Bert van Marwijk is hopeful Robin van Persie will be fit for Arsenal this weekend after suffering an injury in the 5-3 win against Hungary last night.

Van Persie gave Holland the lead in Amsterdam but was injured in a challenge by Hungary defender Vilmos Vanczak and was forced off before half-time.

The Arsenal striker suffered an ankle injury on international duty in November 2009 which sidelined him for five months but Van Marwijk played down fears surrounding the striker's latest knock and said: "Robin got a knee to his thigh. With luck he could play for Arsenal this weekend."

The club's medical staff will assess Van Persie when he returns but Samir Nasri, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy (France), Nicklas Bendtner (Denmark), Andrey Arshavin (Russia) and Tomas Rosicky (Czech Rep) all came through their internationals unscathed.

Arsenal, five points adrift of Manchester United with a game in hand, host Blackburn on Saturday.
