Eddie Howe: Tottenham are the team Bournemouth aspire to be

Tottenham are the Premier League team Bournemouth aspire to be like, according to Cherries boss Eddie Howe.

Spurs blew the South Coast outfit away at White Hart Lane with Mousa Dembele, Heung-min Son, Harry Kane and Vincent Janssen all on target for the hosts.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have not tasted defeat on home turf this season and remain on course to push Chelsea all the way in the title race.

Bournemouth had no answers for Spurs' relentless high-pressing game and Howe is adamant Pochettino's philosophy is one he wants to emulate.

"Tottenham are so good because they keep the ball so well. They make it difficult for you to build. It's a nice mix they have," Howe said.

"They are the team we aspire to be but they are certainly a level above us at the moment.

"That could be an understatement," Howe added when asked if it had been a difficult day for his side at White Hart Lane.

"Tottenham were everything we expected them to be but we're disappointed with the manner of the goals we conceded. We contributed to our own downfall."

Spurs still harbour hopes of pipping Chelsea at the post but Bournemouth are still in need of points to retain their top-flight status.

Bournemouth have been described as safe in some quarters but Howe is convinced his players must maintain their focus.

"Our destiny is in our own hands - the danger is everyone says we are safe," the Englishman added.
