The EFL has dropped charges against AFC Wimbledon stemming from when the club failed to recognise bitter rivals MK Dons by their correct name.

At the Cherry Red Records Stadium on September 22 last year, Wimbledon were alleged to have not referred to their opposition "in an appropriate manner". They were charged by the EFL three months later.

The programme did not reference the home side's opponents either on the cover or inside, while Wimbledon's Twitter feed referred to the visiting team as Milton Keynes throughout the match, failing to acknowledge the 'Dons' part of their name.

The rivalry stems from the original Wimbledon club, who won the FA Cup in 1988, relocating to Milton Keynes in 2003 and assuming a new name.

An EFL statement read: "The EFL has been in communication with both clubs and, as a result of the positive dialogue, a decision has been taken to drop the charges against AFC Wimbledon on the proviso that all parties will now enter into discussions using their best endeavours to seek to reach an agreed position between the parties for the future.

"The decision has been supported by Milton Keynes Dons and the Dons Trust board."
