The FA has confirmed that all four home nations will seek permission from opponents and Fifa to display the poppy on armbands during next month’s international matches.

Fifa fined England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for wearing poppies last year as the organisation classed it as a “political slogan”.

However, last month the International Football Association Board agreed with FIFA to alter the regulations regarding what can be worn on players’ shirts, adding in that emblems “commemorating a significant national or international event” can be worn as long as the “sensibilities of the opposition team and public [are] carefully considered”.

Germany are set to face England at Wembley on November 10 – with Brazil next up four days’ later – and in a statement, the FA said: “In any year when there are international matches in the week leading up to and including Remembrance Sunday, it is the intention of all four home nations to seek permission from the opposition team and FIFA [as the authority responsible for those matches] to display the poppy on armbands.”
