England face stadium ban as Uefa investigate chaotic Euros Final at Wembley

Italy v England - UEFA Euro 2020 Final - Wembley Stadium

England are facing the threat of a stadium ban from Uefa after the European governing body launched an investigation into the chaotic scenes outside Wembley on Sunday.

Uefa have appointed an inspector to report to their Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, who could issue a stadium ban for England's Nations League games, which begin in June next year. The report may take weeks to conclude.

The Football Association insist that all stewarding and policing was of the highest standard and in greater numbers than seen at Wembley ever before following consultation with experts ahead of the game, which occurs before every football fixture in the country.

However, in dealing with tens of thousands of ticketless fans trying to force their way in past security and through doors, stewards could not cope.

Uefa have also charged the FA on four other incidents including booing during the Italian national anthem, a pitch invader, objects being thrown by fans and the lighting of a flare. The FA were fined more than £25,000 for similar actions during the Denmark semi-final.
