England Under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd says he is “absolutely desperate” to beat Scotland when the two sides meet at the Riverside Stadium.

Former Watford boss Boothroyd has lived north of the border and knows what it means to the Scottish fans to beat England at any level, so he wants to earn the bragging rights.

Scotland showed their quality when they beat Holland last month and Boothroyd knows the tough test that is facing his side in tonight’s Euro 2019 qualifier.

Boothroyd said: “It’s not a six-pointer but one of those games you are absolutely desperate to win. They will be the same.

“I lived up there for a year and I know how important it is for them to beat the English at anything. But we are a proud nation and know there is an expectation on us.”
