Ruben Loftus-Cheek suffered another injury setback as the midfielder limped off during England's Wembley friendly against Brazil.

After such a promising debut against Germany on Friday night, there was much anticipation when Loftus-Cheek was handed a second start against Brazil - but after just 34 minutes, his night was over.

The Crystal Palace midfielder, on loan from Chelsea, was the shining light in the draw with Germany, as Gareth Southgate handed out five debuts and did enough to earn himself another start against the Brazilians.

Southgate admitted after the Germany game that he would have to keep an eye on the likes of Loftus-Cheek and fellow debutant Tammy Abraham, though there looked to be no rustiness early on.

A knock off the ball during one of many Brazilian attacks, though, caused the 21-year-old visible discomfort and, despite receiving treatment and coming back on, was withdrawn for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard minutes later.

His injury will be a blow for Southgate, who has championed the inclusion of younger talents in his Three Lions setup with Loftus-Cheek’s performance the most encouraging of any to have made the step up.

But the most damage may be done to Palace manager Hodgson, with the Eagles - bottom of the Premier League table - hosting Everton on Saturday.
