Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has had his say on the EU referendum result today after he criticised the 'Leave' campaign for being "fake" and being based on "lies".

Britain voted to quit the EU on Friday morning following a historic vote a day earlier, which saw Prime Minister David Cameron subsequently resign from his post.

In the immediate aftermath of the result of the referendum, Ukip leader Nigel Farage was asked on ITV's Good Morning Britain programme whether a pledge to spend £350million of EU money on the NHS would be upheld once Britain had left.

But Farage said: "No I can’t [guarantee it], and I would never have made that claim. That was one of the mistakes that I think the Leave campaign made.

"It wasn’t one of my adverts – I can assure you! I think they made a mistake in doing that."

A clip of the interview was then tweeted by Good Morning Britain's Twitter account, which Cech also shared and wrote: "It looks like the biggest decision in the history of this country was made based on fake campaign and lies ..."

Such was the popularity of Cech's comments that his tweet has had nearly 6,000 re-tweets and 4,300 favourites on the social network site.
