The FA are hopeful of a crowd in excess of 60,000 for England’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia on Thursday night despite travel chaos affecting the capital.

It is understood that around two-thirds of tickets have already been sold for the game which could see Gareth Southgate’s side book their place at next summer’s finals in Russia with a match to spare.

The FA have been in consultation with Transport for London (TfL) and National Express to set up a range of transport options following the announcement of a proposed 24-hour strike by members of the Aslef union in dispute over working conditions.

A series of additional measures have been implemented and will remain in place even if the strike is cancelled.

There will be an enhanced coach network to Wembley Stadium from across the UK while a shuttle service for match ticket holders only will operate from Waterloo and Kings Cross. Use of the shuttle is subject to a £1 booking fee with places available from midday today.

TfL are also running additional bus services and there is additional parking at Wembley. Any supporters unable to attend will automatically be refunded within 28 days.

England’s lowest attendance at Wembley is 55,990 for a 5-0 win over San Marino in September 2014, which beat the previous low of 57,897 against Andorra in June 2009 when there was also a tube strike.

The Football Supporters' Federation told Standard Sport: “Fans should give themselves more time than normal on the day to travel to and from Wembley. We'd also encourage supporters to keep an eye on travel news from Transport for London, The FA and the FSF's Free Lions team.”
