Tony Pulis today blamed Saido Berahino’s failed move to Tottenham for his poor form this season.

Spurs had a series of bids for Berahino rejected over the summer after West Brom refused to sell despite the 22-year-old handing in a transfer request.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace accused Tottenham of unsettling Berahino and the forward threatened he would never play for West Brom again.

Berahino has since made up with Pulis but his form has suffered and he has only scored three goals so far this season.

Spurs face West Brom tomorrow for the first time since they failed to sign Berahino and Pulis said: “Saido has not been as influential as he was last year.

“He needs to get back to his best and West Brom is the best place for him. For six months we have had Saido not playing anywhere near as good as he was before.

“I am not blaming Saido. It is not his fault. He is an outstanding player but we have not had him at the same level as before all this happened.”

Spurs could return for Berahino when the transfer window opens.

Pulis said: “Until the lad recognises that he has got to wash a lot of this stuff away it is not going to go away.”
