A group of supporters clubbed together £840 to pay for a plane to trail a banner above Old Trafford which read 'Wrong One - Moyes Out' during Manchester United's lunch-time kick-off versus Aston Villa.

Moyes ran along the touchline before the players came down the tunnel, receiving a good reception from the home support.

And - in the second minute - the sight of the plane with its controversial trailing banner prompted some fans to break out into chants and jeers, in support of the beleaguered Reds boss.

A statement from the fans on the Red Issue website said the decision was: "borne out of acute frustration - frustration at the poor results, lack of fight on the pitch and the unavoidable signs the David Moyes isn't up to the highest standards required to manage Manchester United Football Club.

"A significant proportion of Manchester United fans have had enough and unequivocally want David Moyes sacked."

It emerged on Friday that a bookmaker also hired a plane to fly over Old Trafford.

And shortly after the first banner, a second flew over with the message: "Fergie back in 6/1 with Paddy Power".

When asked about the banner by BT Sport before the match, the Scot replied: "You just have to remain focused on the game - and that's what we have done.

"It is going to happen but I think, for the people who have spent money on the plane, it would have been better served by putting it into Darren Fletcher's colitis charity instead."
