FIFA probe Egypt FA over stoning of bus

11 April 2012

FIFA has charged Egypt's football federation after an attack by fans on the Algerian national team before a World Cup qualifying match in Cairo.

FIFA said its disciplinary committee will rule on a case brought against the Egyptian Football Association.

Football's world governing body said it had reports of "incidents affecting the Algerian team" when it traveled from the airport to its hotel two days before the match.

Algeria players and officials said Egypt fans hurled rocks at the team bus, shattering windows and showering them with broken glass.

Egypt won the group stage match 2-0 on Saturday to force a playoff between the two countries.

Algeria won 1-0 in neutral Sudan on Wednesday to advance to the 2010 finals in South Africa.
