Former West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher has spoken of his delight at getting an assist in his first appearance for new club Middlesbrough in their 2-1 win over Augsburg.

The 21-year old moved to the Riverside Stadium for £6.5m just a year after joining West Ham, and came off the bench for his new club to make an immediate impact.

He squared the ball for Adam Forshaw late on in the game, who was able to stroke home for the game's winning goal.

“I loved it, it was good to start my time here with a win,” he told the club site.

“Obviously that was important going in to next week’s game. Overall I’m very happy.”

Fletcher admitted that, as a natural goal scorer, he had to think quickly in order to turn provider.

“It’s always the striker’s instinct to score,” he added.

“But to be fair I saw Ads [Forshaw] running from the halfway line and I thought of the good of the team.

"We needed the win and the confidence to take into next week’s game.

“Augsburg are a very good side, and it was a tough test for us.

"Coming away with a victory and no injuries is very good."
