Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Tottenham striker Harry Kane will remain England captain for Tuesday's friendly against France in Paris.

Kane skippered the Three Lions against Scotland on Saturday, and scored a valuable injury-time equaliser to rescue a 2018 World Cup qualifying point in the 2-2 draw.

The 23-year-old forward's reward for his late goal is the chance to prove his captaincy credentials once again as England face Didier Deschamps' side in the French capital on Tuesday.

However, Southgate maintains that he is yet to make a decision on a permanent captain with current skipper Wayne Rooney struggling to get into the squad.

Southgate has also confirmed that Tom Heaton and Jack Butland will share goalkeeping duties at Stade de France.

Burnley keeper Heaton will take over from Joe Hart at the start in Paris with Stoke's Butland also set for playing time in the friendly.

Southgate told a press conference: "I said on Saturday it was never my intention to play Joe in this game.

"Tom Heaton will start the game and Jack Butland will play the second half."
